Old Blue

Progress has been made. Six old shirts and a lot of long seams. The blanket top is done...I think.

A whole field of blue. Thank goodness the elbows went out on the stripy number at the last minute, the stripy bits really pulled it all together.

Still deciding if I should add sashing to the sides and ends. Or a pop of color somewhere. It'll make a fine picnic blanket in the end. I'm calling it a blanket and not a quilt, for I imagine I broke far too many quilting rules along the way to make it a proper quilt.

Is anyone interested in just how I put "Old Blue" together? let me know and I will work up a little 'how to' when it's all done.

    It looks great as it is. Maybe sashing in navy blue?? The stripes really do bring it together! I love the idea.

    Love how this turned out and the addition of the stipes! It would be marvellous if you would share how with us. The sky would be the limit with the different shirts one could use, like my hubbys hawaiian shirts that I retired this spring, how fun that would be for a picnic blanket!

    It's beautiful!!! I love the fact that it's old work shirts - because probably while working in them picnics were being thought about.

    So much fun! Think of all those boring old workshirts now having so much fun in their retirement. Can you still unbutton them? or have you stitched them closed? It could fold away in to its own "pocket" bit like a pac-a-mac with a secret strap on the inside to make it easy to carry. Buzz buzz buzz goes her brain!

    I'm very interesting in seeing how you put it together, if you don't mind. I love how it turned out! And I think you're right about the stripy shirt. It pulls it all together. It's beautiful. :)

    It's fantastic! I used bits of an old stripey work shirt for a passport wallet, and I loved the effect. This is that times ten!

    gorgeous! and i totally agree of the cuteness with keeping the buttons intact. i think it's fine as blues-only. even though i think it's more of a wonderful table-cloth than a picnic-blanket:)

    This is a fantastic use for old business shirts. Have you hear of peppermint magazine? They do this sort of thing. Oh and yes, I would love some how to tips on doing this, many a man shirt to recycle here! Cecily
