Today it is raining, big sloppy drops of rain are coming down and watering the garden. I don't mind really. We had a stretch of the most beautiful and warm weather for a bit there and the garden thrived and rushed towards the sky. Like these Lupines, this has been their best year yet since I planted them a few years ago. We removed a large Holly tree that blocked the sun, and now look at those gorgeous flowers!
Lupines remind me of happy times, of adventures. They remind me of the mountains, meadows, and lakes where I used to camp long ago. There is a secret place, near a group of small mysterious crater lakes, and a meadow on the edge of a forest. If you can find it, and happen to get there on just the right day, you can watch the sun rise lighting up the sky and illuminate a giant swath of Lupine like a purpley-blue haze over the tall meadow grass... it is spectacular! The birds sing, the breeze blows; the peace and beauty bring abundant gratitude and happiness.
Is there a flower that sparks happy memories for you?

those are beautiful!!!!
my favorite would be lilacs~ there was a whole row of them behind our house. i would pick them & fill every empty ball jar i could find and set them all over my bedroom~
Lily of the Valley reminds me of my Nan's garden (we lived with my grandparents when I was little). There was also a rose bush, very small blooms but I don't know the name and, despite looking at many books and catalogues, have never found it.
Lovely lupin.
It has been fine today and I do believe it is getting warmer.

Your Lupines do look lovely, they are always such a nice addition to the landscape.
There are three flowers that I have happy memories of and they all are from my grandmothers yard. On the side of her little white cottage, where the sun got hot, she grew some roses with small, light pinkish white flowers and they had the sweetest, spicy fragrance..I can smell it as I type. To this day I don't know what kind they are. She also grew Chinese Lanterns, I loved their papery look and the warning from her that they were poisonous. Last but not least, the Foxglove and another warning..."Deadly Nightshade" she would say.
Thanks for putting this smile on my face...fond memories indeed. xo
Beautiful.
Flowers and memories.
Peonies are my happy flowers and in a bizarre twist of fate I am planning a post about them next week.
I actually have lots of memories triggered by flowers. I love this season!
Your Lupines are gorgeous!! I love roses, especially the smell. They remind me of my mom, and hydrangeas because they were in my wedding, and they just make me smile!! Happy Monday!! xo Heather
your lupins photo is just beautifull, I must find some seeds for these. Lovely.
I love your new banner. The dresses are gorgeous. They are beautiful flowers. My favourites would have to be tropical flowers, in particular frangipane, having grown up in the tropics. Liz xx
You know, it's hard for me to pin down just one flower. My grammy had lots and lots of flowers, and my mom followed suit. So I have lots of memories of Springs and Summers with flowers all around whatever we were doing outside. I remember being taught the story that goes with the Bleeding Heart bush/flowers, and the strong scent of Lily of the Valley. I love flowers, too, but I am not the dedicated gardener that my ancestors were!
