On The Make

I have been a little concerned over my lack of production lately, especially with a new shop to run and it being so close to the big holiday. I am trying to accept that this is just where I'm at in life (remember, I am a woman pressed for time),that I am doing the best I can, and it is enough. I have managed a few bits here and there and I am currently 'in production' of a couple of items for the shop. Though it's all in the unfinished phase, I find an interesting beauty in works in progress so, I thought I might give you a peek at what I am working on.

My crush on soft trees has been revived, I wasn't certain after the craze of 2008 but, these little trees still drive me wild. How could I resist?

just a few finishing touches left

Back again this year, are my little hens. Modeled after our very own brood, these lovely ladies still need sewing up and a coop to call their own. I can't help it, they make me smile.

I am hoping to get all these in the shop by next Monday

...and lastly, I must give myself a little pat on the shoulder and an A for effort because...

I hooked my first granny!
Armed with 3 different sets of instructions, some 'slippery little sucker' yarn and a 'can do' attitude, I had at it. With much consternation, a few not so nice expletives, several rounds of unraveling and a wee nip in between colors, I finally managed something nearly resembling an actual granny square! I am a bit proud of my wonky, not quite right square and I may just see a garland in my future.

I'm off to fortify the flock, lovely day to you my sweets.

Oh, I am too impressed. Today I have taught one pupil, bought one second hand mirror, mopped one floor, posted one post and made one pair of itchy trousers wearable for Son 1 (covering the rough stitching with tracksuit fabric). That's been the full extent of my creativity.

i love granny squares (obviously;) making them yes, but the attaching them together not to mention secure the ends, argh that's so so boring. your first square looks lovely, what a fine colour combo!

your chickies are adorable and how sweet with soft trees, tree hugger gets a totaly new meaning:)

Looks like you are a mighty fine "hooker"! Love the colors!
I especially am partial to the chickies as we have our own little brood.

i do like seeing all your little snippets of creativity...
the granny square is a mini miracle far more so than my attempts. the problem i have with them is not understanding instructions nor bothering to try but the real issue is stepping up to the next row and color...
i have given up for now, and just spend wasteful moments lusting after other's on flickr like wood and wool's lovely examples :)

i like your chickie peas...

Thanks heaps everybody, you have all made me feel so nice.

I must admit there was a bit of fudging and pretending with the granny square, things are not quite right, but still...it's better than having thrown it on the fire (which at one point I was completely prepared to do).

I just love those little hens! Mine hangs over my desk year round, on the point of a little Canadian flag that I have for a reminder of home. I love it, and I am glad to see some of her flock mates on your blog! I also love my little owl who remains on my bulletin board for school things, reminding me to be wise. Love the granny square!
